About the ProQual NVQ Level 6 Diploma
The ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma is designed for safety professionals who are ready to take on senior leadership roles and command the recognition and salary that come with them.
Unlike theoretical classroom courses, this qualification is entirely evidence-based — learners demonstrate their existing skills and experience through practical, work-related examples. It’s the perfect route for those already working in health and safety who want to achieve a nationally recognised qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.
Delivered and supported by 2020 Safety Training, with Compassa acting as the delivery agent, this qualification combines flexibility with expert guidance to help you reach Chartered status.
Who is it for?
This qualification is ideal for those who:
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in their workplace.
- Hold roles such as Health and Safety Manager, Advisor, Consultant, or Supervisor.
- Aim to progress to CertIOSH or Chartered (CMIOSH) membership.
It is set at EQF/NQF Level 6, equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, and provides direct eligibility for CertIOSH (previously GradIOSH) with IOSH.
Learners will strengthen their leadership, compliance, and risk management skills through ten mandatory units covering:
✓ Promoting a positive health and safety culture
✓ Developing and implementing H&S policies
✓ Effective communication systems for safety information
✓ Building competence in health and safety management
✓ Identifying, assessing, and controlling risks
✓ Proactive and reactive monitoring systems
✓ Emergency response procedures
✓ Health and safety review systems
✓ Continuous improvement in safety practices
Assessment and Portfolio
The qualification is competence-based, meaning candidates demonstrate their capability through a portfolio of workplace evidence. This may include:
- Reports and audits
- Risk assessments
- CPD logs and reflective accounts
- Witness testimonies
- Policy and procedural documents
Assessments are carried out remotely by qualified 2020 Safety Training assessors, who provide feedback and guidance throughout the process. Candidates can revise and resubmit work as needed — the process is designed to ensure success through continual improvement and support.
Course Duration and Commitment
You’ll have up to two years to complete the diploma, depending on your experience and available evidence.
Most learners complete within 4–12 months, dedicating around 1,000 hours of total study time, including 500 guided learning hours.
Entry Requirements
To enrol, learners should:
- Have a good command of English (written and verbal) to complete reflective accounts.
- Be actively involved in developing, reviewing, or implementing health and safety systems.
- Have regular workplace exposure to policy writing, risk assessment, or emergency response activities.
