The Ultimate Career Move for NEBOSH Nerds: Join Compassa as our Lead Tutor
Are you the kind of person who reads a NEBOSH examiner report for fun? Does the sight of a perfectly structured command word response give you a genuine sense of professional satisfaction? If you are a current or former NEBOSH Examiner who is tired of the motorway service station life but still deeply cares about student success, we have the role you have been waiting for.
Compassa is not your average health and safety training provider. We are a high growth, premium online learning partner that has spent the last few years tearing up the rulebook on how IOSH and NEBOSH courses are delivered. We are currently looking for a Lead NEBOSH IOSH Tutor to join our ranks. This is a senior, 100% remote UK position with a salary range of £45,000 to £55,000, a 10% employer pension, and a quarterly profit share.
But before you polish your CV, you need to know who we are, what we stand for, and why this role is both the most rewarding and potentially most repetitive job you will ever love.
Who are Compassa?
We launched our first course in 2020 with a simple mission: stop “ticking boxes.” The health and safety training industry is unfortunately full of providers who focus exclusively on sales volume while neglecting the actual learning experience. We decided to do the opposite.
By focusing on innovative course design, high energy delivery, and unparalleled student support, we have become one of the premier NEBOSH Learning Partners in the world. Our student numbers have grown by 70% over the last two years. We don’t just help people pass; we help them understand.
We use award winning techniques to make sure our digital courses are engaging. We want to kill off “Death by PowerPoint” for good. To keep this momentum going, our founder, Will, needs a “tag team partner.” We are looking for the Robin to his Batman, the Chewbacca to his Han Solo. We need a Lead Tutor who can take ownership of the day to day delivery and keep our standards sky high.
The Reality of the Role: The “Mountain” and the Magic
Let’s be direct. If you want a job where every single second is a whirlwind of new external stimulus, this isn’t it. A large part of this job is repetitive.
The Marking Mountain Most mornings, you will spend one to three hours climbing a “mountain” of mock exams and assignments. You will be marking the same questions for different learners over and over again. We need someone who doesn’t mind that “grind” because they understand that high quality, personalised feedback is the single most important factor in a learner’s success. Your marking must be accurate, fair, and fast. You aren’t just a grader; you are a coach.
Technical Expertise and Customer Care When you aren’t marking, you are the fountain of knowledge. You will answer technical queries via email and phone. We are a small, agile team, which means when the “Bat phone” rings, we all muck in. You might be providing expert level support on a complex legislative point one minute and helping a student navigate the portal the next.
Course Development and Innovation We are never “finished” with a course. You will be responsible for reviewing and refining our materials. If you notice a trend in your marking, perhaps ten learners in a row have struggled with the same concept, you won’t wait for permission. You will tell us, “This module isn’t landing,” and then you will help us rewrite it.
The Derren Brown of Webinars You will host live webinars for our learners. We don’t want someone who drones on over static slides. We want charisma. You need to be comfortable on camera, multi tasking on Zoom, and engaging a virtual room so completely that the knowledge actually sticks. We are looking for that “lightbulb moment” for every student.
The Hermione Granger Factor: Compliance While we like to have fun, we are strictly regulated. You will be our “Hermione Granger.” You are brave and adventurous, but you have actually read the rules. You will maintain malpractice records, keep course changelogs, and lead us through awarding body audits. Keeping our reputation bulletproof with NEBOSH and IOSH is non negotiable.
What You Must Bring to the Table
This is a premium role, and our requirements reflect that.
1. NEBOSH Examiner Status
This is a mandatory requirement. You must be a current or former NEBOSH Examiner. We need someone with that deep, “under the hood” understanding of how exams are marked. If you are a current GNC1 or GIC1 examiner, you will have a significant advantage. You need to know exactly what the examiners are looking for so you can guide our students to those distinctions.
2. Professional Standing and Qualifications
You are a senior professional. Our learners expect to be taught by the best in the business. You should hold:
- NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma (or an equivalent like NCRQ, NVQ6, or IOSH Level 6).
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (minimum).
- CertIOSH status (minimum), though CMIOSH or CFIOSH is highly desirable.
3. Real World Experience
We don’t want “textbook” tutors. We want someone with at least five years of experience managing health and safety across various industries. You need “war stories” to tell. You need to be able to take a dry legal theory and bring it to life with a real world example that makes it click for the student.
4. The “Compassa” Personality
We take our pass rates seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our courses are known for being cheeky, provocative, and full of pop culture references. You need to fit in with this irreverent style.
You also need to be a “Mrs. Doubtfire”, someone who can step in, keep the house in perfect order, and look after our “kids” (the courses) better than we can. You are disciplined enough to work remotely without being chased, and you type fast enough to keep up with the digital demand.
Why You Should Choose Compassa
If you are currently a classroom tutor, you probably spend half your life in Premier Inns and the other half on the M6. This role changes that.
- 100% Remote: Work from your home office. No more hotels. No more “trainer life” on the road (occasional travel to our Hull HQ is required for team events and meetings).
- Competitive Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 depending on your experience.
- Market Leading Pension: We offer a 10% employer contribution because we value your future as much as our own.
- Profit Share: After six months of service, you will qualify for our quarterly profit based bonus scheme. When the company wins, you win.
- Holiday and Sick Pay: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and a proper sick pay scheme.
- The Culture: You will be part of a team that actually likes each other. We are small, we are fast, and we are changing the industry.
How to Apply
We aren’t interested in generic applications. We want to see your personality. We want to know why you are the right fit for the Compassa brand.
Closing Date: May the 4th (May the Fourth be with you).
Please note that we are only accepting applications from UK based candidates with the Right to Work in the UK.
Strictly no agencies. We want to hear from you directly.
If you are a high level NEBOSH professional who is ready to leave the classroom behind but still wants to make a massive impact on the next generation of H&S professionals, this is your moment.
Join us and help us kill off “Death by PowerPoint” once and for all.
