The qualification units are assessed in the following way:
ND1 – Workplace health and safety principles assignment – workplace-based tasks together with simulations and reflective statements and a research topic.
ND2 – Controlling workplace health issues – Scenario-based case study.
ND3 – Controlling workplace safety issues – Scenario-based case study.
The assessments are carried out in your own time and are Open Book. Each assessment will take serious effort and time to complete. On the assessment opening day you will be able to download your assessment brief and you will have a deadline to upload your assignment.
- Unit ND1: around 60 hours of work and a 6 week timeframe for completion
- Unit ND2: around 40 hours of work and a 4 week timeframe.
- Unit ND3: around 40 hours of work and a 4 week timeframe.

The NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals is the UK’s leading Level 6 health and safety qualification.
Passing the NEBOSH National Diploma is considered by many to be the next step in progressing to more senior Health and Safety Management roles.
The NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals is perfect for aspiring and existing health and safety managers, officers, and advisers, or others in Compliance or Risk Management roles.
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, it is highly recommended that delegates have passed the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety first.
You will need to register in advance for each assessment.
Your assessments begin on a fixed date and you have between 4 to 6 weeks to complete each assessment. These are completed in your own time, online. They are completely flexible.
The assessments are Open Book and are assignments and exercises based on either your own workplace or a scenario.
You will submit this before the deadline and they will be graded by a NEBOSH examiner.
You get one attempt at each of the assessments included in the price of the course.
Additional attempts at the assessments can be purchased directly from Astutis at their prevailing rate.

If you require more than two years to finish the qualification, you may purchase additional access directly from Astutis.
All of your NEBOSH assessments must be completed within the 5 years following your registration with NEBOSH.
The Diploma has NO expiry date.
It is highly recommended that all Diploma delegates have:
- Passed the NEBOSH National General Certificate.
- A minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
Upon successful completion, you will qualify for Graduate Member Status with IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health). This would give you the right to use GradIOSH post-nominals. Please note, all membership categories are subject to application to IOSH.
NEBOSH Diploma holders will also qualify for full membership of the IIRSM (International Institute for Risk and Safety Management) allowing you to use the MIIRSM post-nominals.
The NEBOSH National Diploma has been accredited and rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) accreditation at SCQF Level 10.
This is the equivalent of a RQF/CQFW Level 6 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (i.e. the same as a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours).
