Manual Handling Training – Not just an empty box!
There’s one thing we hate more than all others at Compassa: pointless manual handling training where delegates are trained in a meeting room and shown how to pick up an empty cardboard box. It’s boring, irrelevant to the real tasks people carry out, and is so patronising that it switches people off from health and safety. That is the opposite of what you want.
We deliver Manual Handling training – on one condition!
We will happily deliver manual handling training for your staff, but only on one condition: the training session MUST be allowed to spend time on the shopfloor or the frontline applying the theory to the real tasks people carry out whilst at work.
The first half of the session will be spent in a classroom and we will cover the basics such as common back injuries, anatomy of the spine, the Manual Handling Operations Regulations, safe lifting and carrying technique, etc.
The second half of the session should be spent on the shopfloor where we examine various tasks that are carried out. The group of delegates and the trainer then work together to apply the theory and identify the safest method of handling the items they handle every day.
The Benefits of Real Manual Handling Training
You want the training to have some impact on how people lift and handle things. Unfortunately, most standard manual handling training courses have ZERO impact because they are not bespoke to the tasks people carry out. There is even research showing that manual handling training has no significant impact on injury rates. We believe that our way of delivering the training is the ONLY way to have any impact on behaviours and injury rates.
