The results are in! After MASSIVE disruption during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, our latest cohort of NEBOSH National General Certificate students sat their NG1 exam in October 2020 and achieved a remarkable 92% pass rate.
The result is even more impressive since they actually studied the course between January and March 2020, and their initial exam was cancelled due to the April lockdown in the UK. They had to wait for 6 months before they could sit the NEBOSH NG1 exam, during which time their knowledge naturally faded. Furthermore, they had been preparing for the old-style NEBOSH examination (NGC1) which was a closed-book exam which tested delegates more on their memorisation of lists rather than actual true understanding of health and safety management. With only a one-day revision session focused on the new Open Book Exam format, the delegates attempted the new exam and smashed it.
We achieved an average score of 57% and obtained 1 Distinction and 3 Credit passes. It’s worth noting, in the new world of Open Book Exams, credits and distinctions are hard to come by.
We received shortly after a flurry of thank you emails and we can share two online reviews we have received.
Jason Thurlby described the course as “fun” and “engaging“, and described his tutor Will Taylor’s enthusiasm and energy as “infectious” and how he “inspires like no other tutor“. He also described the disruption of the pandemic on his studies: “Will continued to deliver the NEBOSH course via Zoom, with the same enthusiasm and energy. We also had to contend with a change in the format of the final exam, however Will quickly adapted to this and expertly delivered an adapted lesson to suit the needs of the exam.”
To this day we continue to deliver the NEBOSH National General Certificate via Zoom. Whilst we were wary of this method at first, we have developed a method of virtual delivery that is now proven to work. We deliver course in short sessions, featuring almost constant learner interaction with online questions, quizzes, and breakout activities in groups. Our course delivery features a lot of humour, references to movies, and uses a blended approach of presentations, activities, and online games.
Mel Shepperson also left a review about our NEBOSH National General Certificate course. She described our tutoring as “inspirational” and Will Taylor as “a tutor like no other, who works incredibly hard to deliver a difficult subject, in an unprecedented way.”
Our next NEBOSH National General Certificate course starts on 22nd February and will be delivered entirely over Zoom whilst we wait for the UK lockdown to be lifted.
